Collaboration with Local Organizations

Date of Project: 2005-06

Name of Coalition: Perham Early Childhood Initiative/Perham's Promise

MIF: West Central Initiative,

Project Overview: Work was done in the Senior Center room in August to reinvent the space for Early Childhood groups -- ranging from Head Start Parent meetings, Early Head Start, Caring Connections baby classes, School Readiness 4 year olds, as well as other School Readiness classes. Things that were changed include gutting and painting the room -- bringing in child-friendly furniture and play equipment, as well as setting up a teacher area for organization and planning by various staff who utilize the space.

Cost of Project:

# of Children 0-5 Served: 0

# of Children 6-18 Served: 0

# of Adults Served: 0

# Families Served: 0

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: The following summer it is expected that Community Ed will run Summer Classes for families. Each week this room is used by 4 different entities (Head Start, School Readiness, ECFE, Freshwater Education District - ECSE) with at least 200 "different" individuals using it consistently each week. Daily it is used by at least 60 children. This is an incredibly wise re-use of space vacated by the Seniors in the Community when they moved the Senior Center to the Perham Fire Department.
