"Are Our Children Ready?" Community Forum

Project Overview: A community forum was held entitled, "Early Care and Education: Are Our Children Ready for School?" The local coordinator of the Crookston Early Childhood Initiative gave the welcome. The CEO of Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Inc. spoke on "History & injustice of early care and education in northwestern Minnesota". Wayne Kuklinski from the MN Dept. of Education spoke on the "Minnesota School Readiness Assessment Study". Karen Fogolin from the MN Child Care Resource & Referral Network spoke on "Child Care, School Readiness & the role of Child Care Resource & Referral". Andy Hyser from Ready 4 K spoke on "Moving MN forward on an early care & education policy agenda". The forum was moderated by a local school board member and collaborative partner. The forum was open to the public, with a certificate of attendance given for clock hours. Refreshments were provided.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: Attendance was low - would recommend having it at a different time of year than the middle of summer on a beautiful warm day! The information shared was excellent and provided for good discussion from participants.
