Community Music Garden Picnic

Project Overview: The Community Music Garden Picnic was held in July 2006, in the "Caring Courtyard" of the local nursing home. In addition to the nursing home, the coalition worked with the local ECFE, Head Start, hospital, the school string/chamber orchestra, businesses, and two churches. Parents and families were also active in the planning of the project. The event consisted of a picnic/ice cream social, games for kids, and music and entertainment performed by local musicians, senior citizens from the nursing home, and storytellers. We used a large gazebo and rented a large tent to provide shade and protection from the elements.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: Approx. 125 people shared in the three hour event. New collaboration partnerships were formed. Families had a chance to gather for a multi-generational event that was free and open to the public. Our coalition will offer this event again in 2007.
