Big Top Project
Date of Project: 05-2006
Name of Coalition: Redwood Area Coalition
MIF: Southwest Initiative Foundation,
Project Overview: The Redwood Area Early Childhood Coalition has purchased a tent to take out to neighborhoods. This will help us engage more young children and their families in activities. Our local Industrial Arts classes made picnic tables to be donated to the sites we will be meeting at. Between the tent and the table, neighborhoods will know where to come to participate in activities. Activities will consist of: nutritious snacks (led by Extension office), stories and songs (led by a different coalition or community member each time), craft or art activity (led by a group), parenting tips (led by a parent educator or human services), safety tips (led by Public Health), and cultural activies (at some sites). We have flyers and information out in the community about dates. We are trying to get to each site every other month or so.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: The coalition hopes to engage more young children and families in positive learning activities together. We hope to help develop parenting skills by modeling. We want to create relationships with families in their own environment. We also want to engage more community members in committing time and resources to young children. We hope to create friendships between families so they can use one another as resources.
