Al Quie Event
Name of Coalition: Northfield Early Childhood Initiative
MIF: Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation,
Project Overview: The Northfield Early Childhood Initiative and the Northfield Rotary Club, in collaboration, hosted a lunch event with Former Governor Al Quie as a speaker. The attendees included most of the Rotary club members, some ECI members, and other leaders in the community. Our goal was to gather local business leaders and other leaders in the community, and focus them on the importance of Early Childhood issues, specifically early literacy, and bring the Northfield ECI to their attention.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: This project achieved our goal of gathering a large group of community leaders, including members of the business community, and through an outside speaker, brought our messages about early childhood issues to everyone’s attention. Through this new collaboration, our Coalition has created a partnership with the Northfield Rotary Club, and will be working together on an Early Literacy Mini Grant program. We were also able to raise some money for the Initiative, through the generous donation of a local artist. Marie Fritz-Perry donated a work of art which was then auctioned off during the event. A number of limited edition prints were also made, with some sold to others who attended the luncheon. A variety of printed information was distributed to each attendee, and some attendees even took home their placemats which were made by local pre-school children.
