Unified County-wide EC Coalition (6-05)

Date of Project: 06-2005

Name of Coalition: Marshall County

MIF: Northwest Minnesota Foundation,

Project Overview: The coalition decided to address the issue of engaging a large county with a small population by holding five meetings in locations throughout the county, combining the Speak Out and Visioning. Volunteer coordinators in each of the five smaller communities assisted the coalition coordinator with meeting arrangements, mailing lists, and advertising. Some of the Speak Out panel members, such as those holding county positions, attended and spoke at more than one of the meetings. Each meeting met the needs of the specific community in which it was held.

Cost of Project:

# of Children 6-18 Served: 0

# of Adults Served: 0

# Families Served: 0

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: The decision to put the time and effort into holding several Speak Out/Visioning meetings has been worthwhile. Nearly 125 adults have attended the meetings, bringing the totals higher than in any of our other communities, even those with larger populations. An executive committee made up of representatives from all five of the smaller communities in the county has written the vision statement and goals. This group will write the action plan and accept proposals for projects from groups throughout the county.
