Transportation (02-07)

Date of Project: 02-2007

Name of Coalition: Lake of the Woods County ECI

MIF: Northwest Minnesota Foundation,

Project Overview: In our community’s visioning/speak out and surveying session, it was made evident that the two strongest needs in our community were transportation (to/from school for preschool aged children) and equal access. Several families requested that their children receive similar time in kindergarten readiness classes and were provided with transportation both directions like Head Start students. Head Start runs 16 hours a week with transportation provided both directions. School readiness was 9 hours a week and only one direction (to school) was available. By increasing the hours of operation, providing two way transportation, and aligning the schedule to work/school, we were be able to address both of these needs reasonably.
