Project Overview: A collaborative effort has been made with the regional second-hand smoke coalition in promoting designation by cities for smoke free playgrounds. The result has been 3 of the largest of our 8 communities have passed ordinances for Tobacco-Free parks. In the area of safe playgrounds, city council members and other community members have been engaged in our EC coalition and have moved forward efforts in the communities to initiated planning for safer playground equipment. One city has completed the playground and two others are in the planning and fundraising stages. Parents who have been involved in the EC Coalition have been actively involved in their local community efforts.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: Children will not be subjected to dangerous second-hand smoke in the Tobacco-Free parks and playground areas. Safer playground equipment is being installed in the communities.
