Project Overview: Convened a “Discussion on the Early Childhood Mental Health System” serving the children in the three school districts served by our EC Coalition in cooperation with the Family Service Collaborative’s Children’s Mental Health Team. This involved school staff: principals, ECFE staff, Kindergarten teachers, Early Childhood Special Education teachers, Special Education Coop administrators, Social Services director, and Children’s Mental Health case manager, Head Start administrative staff and classroom teachers, Public Health director and staff, school counselors, parents, domestic violence victim’s advocate, and collaborative staff. Discussion on the system from how staff receive training on early childhood mental health, how the screening process happens, and the referral process. In addition, how parents are engaged in the system and how follow up occurs.

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: Shared information, identified gaps in the system, identified who was missing from the discussion. Also identified what we’d like to see our Early Childhood Mental Health System look like to best serve the needs of the early childhood population. Agreed to follow up with gathering further information, engaging additional partners and working to a common understanding of “What is mental health?” and common terminology.
