Early Childhood Opportunities Guide

Name of Coalition: Crookston Early Childhood Initiative

MIF: Northwest Minnesota Foundation,

Project Overview: “Crookston Early Childhood Opportunities” guide: It became clear to us that we had resources available for families with young children in Crookston, but that even those of us on the ECI were not well-informed about the facts of how to access them. We decided to put together a resource guide that covered everything a parent of a child from birth to age five would need to know about activities, resources and services available to them in our community. Gathering the initial information was very labor-intensive. The first printing covered typically developing children, but the second printing added all services for children with any special need as well. Our third printing is underway, with updated contact information, phone numbers, hours of operation, costs, etc.

Cost of Project:

# of Children 0-5 Served: 0

# of Children 6-18 Served: 0

# of Adults Served: 0

# Families Served: 1000

Lessons Learned/Outcomes: We keep running out of these resources guides and need to print more. Parents and professionals alike have told us how valuable it is to have this resource guide at hand when making decisions or looking for information. The guides have also been helpful for new families with young children moving into our community. We distribute them at medical clinics, Head Start, ECFE, WIC and preschool screening.
